How Do You Hire for Attitude? James Heskett, 05 FEB 2024In a company, organization plays a huge role making the company meet its goals and expectations. In the article, the main idea is if we hire for attitude, and train for skill. It is also mentioned that if organizations get it backward, they have to pay the price. Stating that no everything is technical knowledge and skill, that it mainly should depend on personality, and attitude. As this is really important, and that company's should look for this a little more. Something I never knew before was that company's spends 75% managing and finding workers that they hire based on skills, instead of hiring for attitude. Another point is actually determining how to hire these people. For example, you should determine a job candidate’s identification with the mission and values of the organization. This could involve determining how comfortable the candidate is with others on the job, the leadership, and the basic process of the organization. All of these lead to the concept referred to as "fit" within the company. Showing us that that an organization has to take so many careful steps when planning ahead, and even when they have to hire employees for their company, they need to follow and look for certain things, which mainly includes if company should hire for attitude, and train for skills.

Why Work Rituals Bring Teams Together and Create More Meaning, Michael Blanding, 09 APR 2024.This article talks about how work rituals bring teams together. Meaning that people often rely on rituals to bond with each other, and this helps build performance and create more meaning. This relates to the routines we set for ourselves; they also represent rituals as they are habits, we follow on a day to day. Something that I did not know before, is that these companies rely on the controlling function. This is an important function in management in which the standards are put in for comparing and responding to the changes in the workplace and for the employees. Representing the work put in to make a change in the company. For example, bringing teams together is by making them communicate with each other, and make group work for all of them to do so they bond, and the work comes out really good. Some of the rituals they can actually start of by is as simple as setting a day where employees can all eat lunch together or concluding meetings by calling out a positive accomplishment by some members of a team, and etc. This helps the company actually be positive and keeps all the employees motivated. Therefore, companies should implement these little things in their day-to-day company to improve the overall confidence of their employees, to make their company do good and thrive. How to Keep Employees Productive: Support Caregivers, Kara Baskin, 23 Jan 2024The article is about the ways to keep the employees productive by supporting caregivers, and how to prevent caregivers in the USA from quitting. This means that when employees work for companies, they struggle to manage family life with work they usually leave the job as they are not able to plan and do the work properly. Therefore, these companies should provide benefits to them by giving caretakers. As the article states the companies can attract talent by investing and maintaining family-friendly policies. Something I learned from this article, is that companies use planning as a strategy, and first they collect data and see why people actually are struggling to manage work life and family life, and according to that they set certain strategies for these companies to support caregivers. For example, they recognize that Employee Assistance programs provide limited support, mainly connecting the employees with service representatives for questions. However, caregiving benefits offer more direct assistance by connecting employees with actual caregiving services that they need. Moreover, these benefits have various forms of support, such as child care assistance, eldercare resources, or other caregiver services, and addressing the diverse needs of these employees. By implementing these caregiving benefits, companies meet more specific needs of their workplace to make their company do better, and help with employee well being. Therefore, companies should give employees caregiving benefits for overall company productivity, and to help employees.Empower Your Employees to Make Better Decisions, Pamela Reynolds, 27 Apr 2022This article is about managers empowering their employees to make better decisions, and have proper opinions. As this article states leaders should put themselves in others shoes to initially think about what their opinions might be, and how they would solve to tackle a problem differently. Something I learned from the article that I did not know before were some of the strategies the author mentioned. To begin with, thinking multiple steps ahead as leaders need to actually consider how certain behaviours will actually play out in the future and that they can not predict these events. Therefore, they plan out with their employees have proper conversations hearing their opinions, which will help them think multiple steps ahead. Another strategy that stood out to me was to value diversity. Better decisions are made when the decisions come from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. As you get to know so many people's opinions which will help you get to the point, instead of just relying on one persons opinion and listening to that. This article teaches me that managers need to empower their employees to actually talk to them, get their decisions, value their opinions, and work with them to make better decisions.Stop Ignoring Bad Behavior: 6 Tips for Better Ethics at Work, Pamela Reynolds, 15th Nov 2022The article discusses about how we should stop ignoring bad behaviour, and implement new things to make the work environment more better and well respected. As this article delves into the ideas to make this stop and also talks about the tips to improve better work ethics. Something that stood out to me were the ways that Pamela Reynolds delves to solve this. To begin with, empowering group action stood out as this talks about acknowledging that people can be afraid to come clean about inappropriate behaviour on their own. And to solve this we need to support the establishment of structures that enable people to come together in response to unacceptable behaviour. Moreover, we need to increase diversity as increasing the number of voices and viewpoints helps to lessen the likelihood that members will continue to support injustice. As we need to think about questions like would I want someone to trouble me at work? These types of questions make us think about how this could affect people at work that are not getting justice. Therefore, we need to stop ignoring bad behaviour and help those who are struggling instead of ignoring this. By being responsible, developing trust, good behaviour, and following principles and morals.Inclusive Leadership Advice: Get Comfortable with the Uncomfortable, Francesca Gino, 29 SEP 2022From the title on getting comfortable with the uncomfortable proves to us that being or doing different things from others will make us or others uncomfortable. Humans vs. Machines: Untangling the Tasks AI Can (and Can't) Handle, Rachel Layne, 22 NOV 2023 The article Humans vs. Machines is about the tasks that humans can do without AI and with AI, as well as how AI can do the tasks. This is scary in today’s world as AI can take over a lot of jobs. Therefore, in this article the organizations developed an experimental approach where they can implement an efficient approach, to test and learn. Something that is intriguing to me, that I read in the article that in some tasks AI was doing better than humans, and in some humans were doing better than AI, as this is like a tie between humans and AI. For example, when the employees were using AI, this gave consultants who were rated below, the medium for a pre-task performance the biggest boost. The lower-end group's performance was improved by 43% over prior results thanks to AI. It was 17 percent for top-rated performers. Therefore, using AI can give you benefits and also disadvantages. I can use the knowledge gained from this article in the future to learn how to use AI, but also use it in a beneficial way to learn from my mistakes and do better, and not use it for bad intentions, like harming someone on the internet, and etc. After reading the three articles, I realized how crucial body language is to effective communication and listening skills. This is from the article 7 useful interpersonal skills that you absolutely need to learn. The interpersonal skill that stood out to me was that making eye contact is the initial step which shows that you are listening and interested in what the other person is saying. Individuals are more comfortable and trusting when you are open and carefree with your body language. I've never considered this before, but it turns out to be very beneficial. Overall, these small steps when communicating or listening to others make the conversation better and more engaging.Digital citizenship pertains to the effective and positive use of digital technologies by individuals and communities to foster the development of values, skills, and perspectives, and knowledge. This is important because this fosters a sense of responsibility, when working and using technology, as people should know the positives and negatives of digital technology. This teaches people how to use technology and interact with others online in a respectful way. Helps people in locating trustworthy online sources, guarantees their safety when utilizing technology, and warns them of the repercussions if they post something hurtful or offensive. This also teaches them skills, when using technology, and some background information. The benefits of publishing on the internet include keeping in touch with family and close friends, as well as letting them know what's going on in your life and facilitating communication. For instance, my family in India comments on my posts and engages in conversation with me; I respond when they post and do the same when they do. The potential drawbacks are that there are consequences when you post something rude, demeaning, or harassing others online because it never truly disappears. Or sharing private and sensitive information online, which could provide unauthorized people access to your valuables. For instance, personal information, cyberstalking, and cyberbullying and harassment, are all disadvantages. Therefore, being careful is important, when using the internet.
